Hello Hopeful Heart's Supporters,

On the advice of Hopeful Hearts' legal counsel and our continued commitment to transparency and accountability. I have provided the recently received Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Audit Report, which commenced with the loss of our charity status. This report covers the period from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013.

In regards to CRA Audit Report comments. I wanted to ensure everyone is aware I took over all financial responsibilities as the acting Treasurer for the organization on September 4, 2013 (with the exception of the Founder’s existing PayPal account). In September 2013, we created a new Hopeful Hearts’ PayPal account linked to the Hopeful Hearts’ bank account and changed all relevant financial passwords. From the date of Hopeful Hearts’ inception in 2007 until September 2013, all financial matters were previously handled by the Founder, Ms Roz Phelps.

We are now able to move forward with the final stages of closing Hopeful Hearts Rescue Inc. Once again, we thank you for all your support. We look forward to your continued participation in the rescue community.

Hello Hopeful Heart's Supporters,

It is with a heavy heart that we advise you, Hopeful Hearts Rescue Inc.(HHR) will be ceasing to operate.

Many of you know that the problems with HHR are not new and we have tried several avenues to resolve our issues. HHR, despite valiant efforts on everyone's part, is unable to raise the funds necessary to move forward since CRA revoked our charitable status. The loss of our charitable designation has meant we have been unable to pay down or keep up with our vet bills.

There have been differences in how some sought to manage the organization. This is certainly not a situation unique to HHR. The board and the coordinators have been working diligently over the past two years to address these issues. However, with the devastating news from CRA that our charitable status will not be restored, we cannot support our programs of fulfilling our mandate of caring for senior and special needs dog.

Currently, HHR has significant debt (approximately $15,000). Once the care of our dogs has been addressed (adopted or transferred as fosters), we will address the issue of our creditors. It may be that we are forced into bankruptcy. We will take the necessary steps to avoid this if possible and wrap-up the business of HHR and then advise Industry Canada that we are handing in our Letters Patent and will no longer be incorporated.

As you can imagine, none of this is simple and involves a lot of work, often under disappointing and discouraging circumstances. Dismantling something we have spent 8 years building is devastating.

The past eight years with Hopeful Hearts have been amazing ones. We have filled a gap in rescue that we felt was important and allowed us to save a tremendous number of dogs. We will never forget looking into the eyes of these deserving souls who desperately needed a home of their own.

We have been blessed with countless volunteers and supporters who have shared our vision and helped us nurture these beautiful dogs. You have not only helped us find wonderful homes for these special dogs, but also enabled us to match countless foster dogs with what was missing in their lives.

Throughout this time, we have also had the opportunity to work with some amazing organizations that have shared our vision and passion for the well being of these foster dogs. It is to one such organization, Sit With Me Rescue, that we turned to when we realized we had to make the call to close our doors. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two rescue organizations. Sit With Me has courageously and graciously stepped up to take on the current foster dogs in our care. We will be eternally grateful to the entire team at Sit With Me for their compassion, professionalism and for always putting the interest of the dogs first. We are certain that you will join us in thanking this fantastic organization for stepping forward during this time of need.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. For one last time we will speak for those that have no voice and say "thank you", for giving, helping, loving and most of all caring.
